Corrosion under lagging (Cul)

Cul surveys is a method designed to flag areas on insulated pipe lines that have a high potential for corrosion under the lagging.

This project was initiated by the Shell Refinery at Sola with participation from Shell Research Laboratory in Amsterdam which also had a great say in the evaluation of the trials done at Sola and also at the lab in Amsterdam.

The whole project took approx. 2 1/2 year from start until Amsterdam was atisfied that it would give satisfactory and reliable results. It was however recognised that is was a very demanding task for the inspector and that there are cause for caution to whom should be used. The person would need a extensive knowledge in Thermal Imaging and thorough updating on the project due to the complexity of the survey.
